OK...Let’s do the math! 

The OLD WAY:  TRADITIONAL "FARMING" POSTCARD MAILING: Say you would spend $500 on mailing 1000 postcards to an area introducing your services.  A typical response rate for postcard mailers is 0.1-0.5%.  Let’s be optimistic and say you get 0.5% response, or 5 new clients, from the mailing. 

    The cost per client ($500/5) is $100.

The Just Stay In Touch WAY:  PAST CLIENT CARD MAILING: Now, let’s try mailing to past customers instead, for about the same $$$ investment.  Say you want to send a greeting card out to your top 100 customers, twice per year.  The cost of the (sphere) mailing would be: Card Cost ($2.14) x 100 Customers x 2 (twice per year) = $428

Since satisfied, past customers bring in an average of 5 new customers, you just got 500 referral customers for $428.  Convert just 10% of those leads into sales:

    The cost per client ($428/50) is $0.86!!!

Now, we know that each past customer isn’t realistically going to send 5 referrals to you…but even if only ½ of them do…and even if that ½ only sends 1 referral each…the cost per client is MUCH less expensive than the postcard example.
